Jil Sander offered professional women chic alternatives that were simply styled, monochromic colors and well tailored in gorgeous fabrics. By the 1980’s other designers were hitting the world stage with their approach to minimalism, before Calvin Klein there was Jil Sander. Jil Sander oversaw her brand’s expansion through fragrance launching, eyewear and a successful menswear line. In 1990 the Prada group acquired 75% of the Jil Sander company. Sander remained the creative director and CEO for the next six months. In 2000, Jil Sander abruptly left the company due to the demands from Prada to use less expensive fabrics, change the sizing to become more standard and move all production from Germany. The jil Sander brand fell on flat for three years and by 2003 the Prada group brought Jil back as the creative director and the Spring collection was a industry favorite. |
| The brand came alive again and is currently being produced under the watchful eye of Raf Simmons since 2005. |
